2. WHAT IS A CERAMIC COATING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Think of it as a permanent wax that bonds onto the paint and PPF. It is made from Silica Dioxide, the same compound found in glass, which is why the finish is so hard and glossy. The coating fills the microscopic pores in the clear coat and creates a permanent bond that can only be removed through heavy paint correction or wet sanding. Once it is on, it is on. Unlike wax which sits on top of the paint and breaks down over months, ceramic coating becomes part of the surface.

1. What are the benefits of ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating bonds permanently onto your paint and adds a hard, glossy protective layer over the clear coat. It protects against UV exposure, environmental contaminants, bird droppings, bug splatter, and minor swirl marks. The hydrophobic surface means water beads off aggressively, the car stays cleaner between washes, and washing it becomes significantly faster and safer. The colour depth and gloss it adds is something you have to see in person. It is a permanent solution that requires minimal maintenance compared to wax or sealants.

8. Why does ceramic coating cost more than waxing?

It comes down to what the product actually is. Wax is organic and cheap to produce. It sits on top of the paint and breaks down with exposure to air, UV, and a single car wash. There is no warranty, no certification required to apply it, and no real consequence if it is applied incorrectly. Ceramic coating is a highly engineered synthetic product that bonds permanently into the clear coat. The material cost alone is significantly higher. On top of that, the installer needs to be trained and certified, the application has to be performed in a controlled environment, and the product carries a warranty that can last a lifetime. If ceramic coating is applied incorrectly, removing it requires paint correction or wet sanding. That is what you are paying for: a professional-grade product, applied by certified installers, backed by a warranty, that lasts years instead of weeks.

3. CAN CERAMIC COATINGS PREVENT SCRATCHES?

It is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. The coating adds significant hardness to the surface of your paint, which makes it much more resistant to light swirl marks and fine scratches from washing. Whether it prevents scratches depends partly on how soft or hard your factory paint is. German and British cars tend to have harder paint to begin with, so the coating makes them very difficult to scratch. Softer paints, common on many American brands, will still benefit significantly, but will require a more gentle approach when cleaning. 4. How long does ceramic coating last?

It depends on the package. Bronze carries a 3-year warranty and suits leases or clients who want the maintenance benefits without a long-term commitment. Silver carries a 6-year warranty. Gold and Le Mans both carry lifetime warranties. With proper care, regular washing, avoiding abrasive products, and staying out of automatic car washes, we have seen Silver and Gold packages outlast the client's ownership of the car. The coating does its job quietly. You stop thinking about what is landing on your paint and start just enjoying your car.

5. Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?

Almost always yes. Ceramic coating bonds directly onto the paint surface, which means any imperfections in the clear coat gets sealed in permanently. Even brand new cars come with light swirl marks from the dealership. We always assess the paint first and recommend the right level of correction before any coating goes on. The exception is if the paint is in exceptional condition and the client prefers to skip correction. That is their call and we will give them an honest assessment either way.

6. How is ceramic coating applied?

After paint correction, the vehicle gets another wash and 3 stage decontamination to remove any residue and open the pores of the clear coat. The 3 stages include a mineral dissolver, alcohol for organic contaminants, and solvent for silicone contaminants.  The coating is then applied panel by panel in a controlled environment. Temperature, humidity, and cleanliness all affect how the coating bonds and cures. Once applied, the coating needs time to cure before the car is exposed to water or contaminants. When building our shop, we added diffused lighting panels on the walls so we can inspect the paint of any unevenness which will cause a rainbow effect in low light conditions in the future. We walk every client through the post-application care instructions before they leave.

7. What is the difference between ceramic coating and PPF?

They do different things and work best together. PPF is a thick, clear film that protects against physical impact, stone chips, scratches, and road debris. Ceramic coating protects against the elements, UV exposure, water spots, and chemical contamination, and makes the car much easier to maintain. PPF cannot make a car easier to wash. Ceramic coating cannot stop a stone chip. For complete protection, we apply a ceramic coating over the PPF so both surfaces get the hydrophobic benefits. It is the most complete package we offer.
